Dry Skin
Dry Skin
The skin is the largest organ in the body and is crucial in maintaining homeostasis. It regulates the interchange between the internal and external medium, and acts as a barrier, on the one hand avoiding the inflowing of harmful substances and microorganisms, an on the other hand avoiding loss of water and electrolytes. It also plays a role in immune function. Changes in skin function and structure are subject to various environmental factors or diseases, which in turn may lead to the development of xerosis or dry skin.
