Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease – COPD (II)
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a preventable and treatable disease. It accounts for the major cause of mortality and morbidity throughout the world. Alteration at lung level is characterized by a progressive airflow limitation, which is not completely reversible and is associated to an abnormal inflammatory response of the lung to damaging particles or gases. Cigarette smoking is the leading risk factor related to this disease. Any individual presenting with dyspnea, chronic cough, sputum production, and a history of exposure to risk factors, is worth an evaluation by a professional in order to identify the presence of COPD.
