Asthma in Adults
It consists in the obstruction of the airways, produced by different stimuli, and characterized by an edema of the mucosa, hypersecretion and contraction of the bronchial smooth muscle, potentially reversible either spontenously or through bronchodilator therapeutics. It is estimated that only in the USA between 14 and 15 million people are affected. Asthma can be held responsible for 1% of health costs in this country and in 1990, the loss it caused amounted to 346,3 million dollars in connection with absentism and the inability to produce of millions of people.
